Culture & Talent Post: Chak De Phatte … Its a Punjabi Bonanza

ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN TO PUNJAB WILL KNOW THE CULTURE IS FESTIVE AND FULL OF LIFE, BUT YOU NEED TO SEE THIS CHAK DE PHATTE DHAMAAL IN DUBAI … IT WILL LEAVE YOU WANTING MORE.

Pure Bhangra organized a total chak de phatte event, titled ‘Mela Punjabana Da’ which was an extravaganza that hosted foot tapping music, authentic performances along with several other WOW entertainment factors and of course lots of BHANGRA. Hosted at the Oxford Auditorium, PB had brought together the Punjabi culture into one massive celebration for women to freely come together and have a blast.

As you walk into the glittering hall every inch of it was decorated, photo booths were set up and the stage spotlighted groups of women that were singing authentic Punjabi songs. Seated at the front, I got a up close and personal view of the performances, where individuals of all ages come together to display their singing, dancing and play acting talents.

Opened by a young girl, the performances began on a high note as her melodious voice rang thru the halls and provided a great kickstart to what promised to be a spectacular event. It was then followed by several teams who decided to add a little oomph to their performances by using special effects and acrobatic moves coupled with traditional Punjabi steps to create a great blend of contemporary and authentic. Several skits were in acted in the form of dances and each had a message to share.

One of performances truly touched our souls, there was a line in particular that stood out which said “Saari duniya mein koi gareeb na ho ve, koi na ho jisko roti na naseeb ho ve” – In this big world, we hope that everyone continues to be affording and blessed and no one ever has to go without a meal.

To engage the younger audience, the team of Pure Bhangra prepared a few games and surprises, most of which had a common theme of the Punjabi culture. Finally to end off one great afternoon, the floor was thrown open to the 300 people that turned up and music was cranked up to allow them to pull out the best moves.

_DSC0460The Punjabi culture is inherently vibrant, warm and welcoming and this was reflected throughout. Everyone from the organizing team to the guests opened their arms to welcome people across different cultures and made this event a memorable one. Stay tuned for the next post which will feature one of the faces of Pure Bhangra.
